Biju P. Vareed v

Baiju P. Vareed is an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Social Work in the Faculty of Health and Community Studies at MacEwan University, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Baiju holds a Ph.D. in social work and a master’s in social work, economics, and sociology. Baiju has been a social work educator and practitioner in India and Canada for twenty-five years. He was faculty in the social work departments at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Kerala and Red Deer College, Alberta. He served as an elected member of the Alberta College of Social Work in Alberta, Canada, from 2018 to 2022, and he was the first person of South Indian heritage to serve in that position.
Baiju has presented academic papers at several international conferences and published articles in journals. Baiju has commissioned an edited book with Canadian Scholars Press for publication in 2025. He serves on the board of directors of two nonprofit agencies in Edmonton. He is actively involved with several social work activities among immigrant communities in Edmonton.
