Dr. Bede Eke

Dr. Bede Eke is an educator, a broad-chest social scientist, and multi-disciplinary scholar whose educational experience span three continents – Africa (Nigeria), Europe (Belgium) and North America (USA & Canada). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science & Education from the University of Nigeria, two Master degrees in Gerontology and Political Science respectively, and a PhD in Political Science from Miami University, USA. He has a multidisciplinary research interest in the areas of international political economy, international trade policy, sociology, gerontology and health social policy. His works have been published in peer-reviewed journals and book.

Dr. Eke came to Edmonton in 2007 from the United States. Since then, he has contributed immensely in the educational sector. Over 6000 students from the various universities and colleges in Edmonton have benefitted from his teaching. He has mentored many students as well. He teaches in the departments of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, Concordia University, The King’s University College, and Norquest College in Edmonton. For the past 14 years, Dr. Eke has taught several courses in Political Science, Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies. He has taught over 118 sections of Sociology, Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Interdisciplinary courses in Canada and the United States from 2006 to 2023.

Dr. Eke also works for the Government of Alberta (GoA). He has worked as Policy Analyst with the Ministry of Seniors, Community & Social Services and as a Senior Policy Advisor, Strategic Policy & Indigenous Health at Alberta Ministry of Health respectively for 9 years. He excels in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and government legislation/policies and has a proven track record of managing complex issues, drafting policies, and providing critical analysis and recommendations. He is skilled in leading committees, coordinating projects, and managing grants. Dr. Eke has actively participated in policy and program development, collaborating with stakeholders and working across divisions within and outside the GoA. Presently, Dr. Eke serves as the Anti-Racism Advisor with the Ministry of Immigration & Multiculturalism. In this capacity, he is contributing to the development of anti-racism legislation for the province.
